Verticillium dahliae Kleb. causes a wilt disease of peppermint.
Attempts to control the disease by soil fumigation, crop rotation,
flaming of stubble, and deep plowing have met with only limited success.
Development of resistant varieties through conventional breeding
procedures is difficult because commercial peppermint is male-sterile.
Several strains of commercial...
The fungus Phoma menthae Strasser causes black lesions and
cankers on stems and rhizomes of Mentha piperita L. The purpose
of this thesis was to: 1) study the production of polygalacturonase
(PG) and macerating enzymes (ME) by P. menthae in vivo and in
vitro, 2) study the effects of phenolic...
A series of field experiments was conducted during 1975 and
1976 to examine peppermint tolerance and Canada, thistle response to
Dowco 290 (3, 6- dichloropicolinic acid). Peppermint oil yield and
Canada thistle density were considered most important in evaluating
experimental results.
Peppermint tolerance to Dowco 290 was studied in weed-free...
The efficiencies of wet sieving/sucrose
centrifugation (WS/SC) recovery of Pratylenchus penetrans
(59 %), Paratylenchus sp., (80 %), and Criconemella
xenoplax (66 %) were established. Baermann funnels (BF)
recovered significantly more P. penetrans (p = 0.01) and
significantly less (p = 0.01) C. xenoplax than did WS/SC.
While densities of P....

Sampling techniques were evaluated to quantify immature mint flea beetle (MFB), Longitrsus waterhousei Kutschera (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), on peppermint (Mentha piperita L.), in central Oregon. During the study period, 1985-1988, soil samples of 350 cm³ were effective for collecting immature MFB. Sifting soil samples through screens was effective for estimating post-feeding...
Mealybugs, a family of soft, oval-bodied pests (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae), are known vectors (carriers) of the grapevine leafroll associated viruses (GLRaVs) of grape. This document gives details on how pheromone traps should be used to ensure optimal catches and early detection.
Fifteen species of Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) were collected in alfalfa and
peppermint in western Oregon. Seven of these species were hosts for the braconid
parasitoid Meteorus communis. The most frequently parasitized (percent) species were
Agrotis ipsilon (35.3), Dargida procincta (15.0), and Peridroma saucia (6.9). Other
species parasitized were Autographa californica (3.8)...
