Abstract
  • Fisheries biologists and other marine scientists working closely with the regional fisheries organisations (RFOs), such as the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES) have developed and applied different concepts and methods, including reference points, for assessment and management of fish stocks. However, management recommendations are usually not based on any economic assessment of industry performance. The objective of this paper is to give an introduction to reference point and harvest control rule issues, in particular to interdisciplinary issues in fisheries biology and economics. Biological reference points (BRP) and economic reference points (ERP) could be compared. Is the bridge to be found in bioeconomic reference points?
