Abstract
  • The causes of turbidity in impounded and released reservoir water are studied. Seven Willamette Basin reservoirs are compared to isolate watershed and reservoir characteristics which produce variations in turbidity. Of the seven, Hills Creek Reservoir is examined in detail. Particular features of the basin and impoundment are studied to isolate reasons for above-average turbidity at Hills Creek. Corrective measures are identified in relation to (a) use of the forested watershed, involving the associated timber harvest practices and forest road building, and (b) to modifications in reservoir operating procedures such as the timing of storage and release of floodwaters, conservation use drawdown, and conservation season filling.
