Abstract:
In recent decades, there has been a tremendous change in the college student
experience. In many ways this change has been driven by developments in
technology, which have in turn changed the way students conduct research,
socialize, and recreate. This thesis seeks to gain an understanding as to how
Internet and videogame use impact the experience of college students. Included in
this document is a review of literature pertaining to Internet and videogame use on
college students. The author surveyed nearly 200 undergraduate students to
compare daily levels of Internet and videogame use, and interpersonal competence
as measured using Hood's (1997) Iowa Developing Competence Inventory. The
author conducted a statistical analysis to determine whether a correlation existed
between these elements. The results of this study as well its implications will be
discussed further detail.
