Abstract:
Over the past decade, Oregon State University Malheur Experiment Station
at Ontario, Oregon, has evaluated drip irrigation on potato. We have investigated crop response to drip tape flow rate, bed conformation,
drip tape placement with respect to potato rows, microirrigation criteria, and plant population. When compared to furrow irrigation, drip
irrigation of potato reduces water use, nitrate leaching, erosion, and deep percolation, while increasing marketable yield. Drip irrigation of
potato uses less water than sprinkler irrigation for comparable yield.
