Abstract:
This presentation was given as part of Oregon State University's College of Oceanographic and Atmospheric Sciences graduate student seminar series. Sherman describes the concept of marine spatial planning and then applies to the Oregon nearshore environment. The updating of Oregon's Territorial Sea plan requires new information about uses of the nearshore environment as well as input from the various stakeholders. The speaker suggests that marine spatial planning can reduce conflict among uses and users of the nearshore environment and that it may be a useful tool given the pending development of wave energy in Oregon's waters.
