Abstract:
"This research will compare scores from the WISC-R with scores from the OLSAT using a sample of third grade students referred for possible placement in a Gifted program. Research questions posed in this study are: (1) Do students score higher or lower on the WISC-R than on the OLSAT? (2) Do students score significantly higher or lower on the Verbal, Nonverbal and Full Scale scores for the WISC-R than on the OLSAT Verbal, Nonverbal and School Ability Indicator? (3) If the WISC-R and the OLSAT are measuring the same factors and assuming the cut off score on the WISC-R for "gifted" students is 130, is there a comparable score on the OLSAT? Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare scores from the WISC-R with the scores from the OLSAT. The sample consisted of a group of third grade students being considered for placement in a gifted program. The scores will be compared to determine if the WISC-R and OLSAT can be used interchangeably in identifying giftedness."--P. 3.
