Abstract
  • This study is part of the research program on theme Post Harvest Management Strategy of Supply Chain For Thai Shrimp Products currently supported by the Department of Fisheries (DOF) and Post Harvest Technology Institution (PHT), Chiangmai University (CMU). That focuses on the cost efficiencies of 51 shrimp processing plants under Thai Frozen Foods Association (TFFA). Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was employed in this study to infer about the relative efficiency of shrimp Processing Plants cost management, based on the data of fiscal year 2007. Four cost variables of interest here refer to: personal cost, purchasing cost, processing cost, storage cost, sale cost and operating cost. All costs are assumed to vary with sale volume, type of products (ready to eat or ready to cook) and profit. The results will shown about the average efficiency based on both the VRS (Variable returns to scale assumption (VRS) and Constant returns to scale (CRS). And the number of processing plants, which are lied on the cost - frontier. The finding from this type of the study will be useful for policy-making in particular the present situation for Thai shrimp supply chain management.
