Abstract
  • A classification scheme will group the blocks of an experimental design model into distinct categories, resulting in a new design with classification parameters instead of block parameters. If the original design is an incomplete block design, some balance is still retained in the classification design, allowing the theoretical development of the analysis. The analysis of the classification procedure is compared to the usual incomplete block analyses for all classification schemes, and examples are given for specific designs. The analysis of covariance and the use of a nested model will be discussed as alternatives to the classification procedure.
