Moles belong to the mammalian order Insectivora,
the insect eaters. Often, however, they are lumped
incorrectly with the rodents, which include mice, rats,
squirrels, and other gnawing mammals in the order Rodentia.
Although many people enjoy deer, these animals can be destructive to gardens, orchards, and landscaped areas. Deer damage to ornamental plants is associated with a variety of factors including increasing numbers of deer, human population shifts to rural and suburban areas, and landowners prohibiting deer hunting.
The two species of ground squirrels that may cause severe damage to livestock forage, field crops, ditches, and dams in eastern and central Oregon are the Belding’s (Spermophilus beldingi) and Columbian (S. columbianus) ground squirrels.
