The purpose of this report is to briefly examine some of the laws
and regulatory programs which affect development in Oregon's estuaries
and their adjacent wetlands. Development, in this sense, includes
dredging, filling, bank stabilization, structures or other physical
alterations to an estuary.
The present study was designed to investigate the
effects of exercise on vitamin B-6 metabolism. Four groups
of subjects (intermittent, college, untrained, and high school)
consisting of nineteen male and two female individuals, participated
in the study. The subjects exercised either on a
bicycle ergometer, by running three 1500 meter...
Four different heating treatments with two different methods of
cooking were applied to soybeans. The treatments were boiling 20 min,
autoclaving 5 min, 10 min, or 20 min, after soaking the beans for 10 hr
at 25°C.
Vitamin B-6 and free folacin in cooking water were significantly
(P<0.05) affected by...
Population attributes, behavior, and activity patterns of
Nuttall's cottontails (Sylvilagus nuttallii) inhabiting a
juniper-sagebrush scabland community in central Oregon were studied
between June 1980 and August 1981. Cottontails were trapped, marked
for individual recognition, and released at their sites of capture.
Data collected by periodic trapping and censusing of cottontails...
Descendants of eastern cottontails from Ohio
(Sylvilagns floridanus) introduced in Benton County,
Oregon and cottontails from Ohio were sampled and
analyzed morphometrically and colorimetrically. In
general, Oregon cottontails were smaller and lighter in
color than Ohio rabbits. Introgression and interspecific
competition with the smaller and darker colored native
brush rabbit...
Genetic, ontogenetic, and environmental factors modified characteristic interrenal and glycemic responses to stress in juvenile salmonid fishes. During continuous confinement stress, plasma cortisol rose more quickly in chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, acclimated to high rather than medium or low temperatures; hyperglycemia following either acute or chronic stress was also highest...
Coho salmon smolts (Oncorhynchus kisutch) were transported at low and high densities. (12 and 120 g/L) for short and long periods (4 and 12 h). Because smolts can be transplanted directly to seawater, half of the fish in each treatment were transported to tanks containing seawater and half to tanks...
