Moles belong to the mammalian order Insectivora,
the insect eaters. Often, however, they are lumped
incorrectly with the rodents, which include mice, rats,
squirrels, and other gnawing mammals in the order Rodentia.
Townsend's mole, Scapanus townsendii (Bachman), was
