An obstruction theory is developed for "simplicial
bundles" which are generalized fiber bundles (over a
simplicial complex). Cross sections of one of the examples
of a simplicial bundle given (the Lefschetz bundle) are
essentially fixed point free maps of the base space.
The uncertainty in decay energy for those fission products
which contribute significantly to reactor shutdown
power was evaluated. The methodology used assigned significantly
larger uncertainties for data which were theoretically
predicted than it did for experimentally determined
data. The uncertainty was modeled as an increasing function
of distance from beta...
Progeny from three sires of differing genetic background were
divided within litters by sex and placed on either a 15 or 19% protein
ration. The test period began when the experimental animals weighed
60 pounds and continued until they were slaughtered at 225 pounds.
This test period was divided into...
Six plant pathogenic isolates of Pseudomonas
syringae pv. glycinea, the causal agent of bacterial
blight of Glycine max (L.) Merrill, and one isolate of
P. syringae pv. phaseolicola, the causal agent of halo
blight of Phaseolus vulgaris L., have been examined for
the presence of circular duplex deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA)....
We used an in situ steady state ¹⁵N-labeled nitrate (¹⁵NO₃⁻) and acetate (AcO⁻) well-to-wells injection experiment to determine how the availability of labile dissolved organic carbon (DOC) as AcO⁻ influences microbial denitrification in the hyporheic zone of an upland (third-order) agricultural stream. The experimental wells receiving conservative (Cl⁻ and Br)...
Biogeochemical reactions associated with stream nitrogen cycling, such as
nitrification and denitrification, can be strongly controlled by water and solute residence
times in the hyporheic zone (HZ). We used a whole‐stream steady state ¹⁵N‐labeled
nitrate (¹⁵NO₃⁻) and conservative tracer (Cl⁻) addition to investigate the spatial and
temporal physiochemical conditions controlling...
The diffuse irradiance of slopes relative to the diffuse irradiance of a horizontal surface is calculated by integrating the mean radiance distributions of cloudless skies in Britain for a wide range of solar elevations, azimuths and slope angles. There is reasonable agreement with measurements reported from a number of stations;...
ScholarsArchive@OSU (SA@OSU) has stood as Oregon State University’s institutional repository for nearly a decade, and has seen a great deal of success, by many metrics, as such. Over that time period, the mission, content types, and stakeholders of the repository have changed, as has the ecosystem of available and emerging...
The enhancement of monthly averaged evaporation by atmospheric mesoscale systems is estimated from long-term hourly observations of surface meteorological data from the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) buoy moorings over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and a bulk aerodynamic flux algorithm developed as a result of the...
