Anthropogenic nitrogen (N) deposition has had substantial impacts on forests of North America. Managers seek to monitor deposition to identify areas of concern and establish critical loads, which define the amount of deposition that can be tolerated by ecosystems without causing substantial harm. We present a new monitoring approach that...
We give references for illustrations in the third edition of Macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest. For each illustration, we list the photographer or illustrator, the specimen photographed, where the specimen was from, collector, collection number, and herbarium.
We list additions, deletions, and other changes in species included in Macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest, 2nd edition, as compared to the 1st edition. The changes resulted from discoveries of range extensions into the Pacific Northwest, descriptions of new species, taxonomic revisions, and nomenclatural revisions.
References are given for illustrations in the second edition of Macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest. For each illustration, we list the photographer or illustrator, the specimen photographed, where the specimen was from, collector, collection number, and herbarium.
National statistics indicate substantially higher rates of divorce
in doctoral student households where the female, rather than the male, is
the degree candidate. This research was designed to examine the married
female's experiences and to identify factors which possibly contribute
to the differential divorce statistics for males and females.

The USDA Forest Service has an outstanding scientific resource in the 77 Experimental Forests and Ranges that exist across the United States and its territories. These valuable scientific resources incorporate a broad range of climates, forest types, research emphases, and history. This publication describes each of the research sites within...
The rapid pace of climate change and increased human disturbance of ecosystems in the Arctic is bringing urgency to concern over non-native species introductions and their potential threats to the marine environment and its economic productivity, where before environmental conditions served as a barrier to their establishment. The same characteristics...
Studies of the effects of climate change on forests have focused on the ability of species to tolerate temperature and moisture changes and to disperse, but they have ignored the effects of disturbances caused by climate change (e.g., Ojima et al. 1991). Yet modeling studies indicate the importance of climate...
