In the study of nutritional variability in potato it is desirable to know the present range of expression and genetic potential for increase. Potato breeding lines and varieties in two separate trials were evaluated for potassium and phosphorus content by wet ashing and Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma Emission Spectrophotometer analysis....
Sulfur and copper are important for human health.
Sulfur deficiency is rare, but may occur in the elderly. However,
a large percentage of the U.S. population is deficient in
copper. The purpose of this study was to determine the range
of values for sulfur and copper available in advanced potato...
Calcium and magnesium are two minerals that play prominent roles in animal and plant metabolism. The purpose of this study was to determine if genetic variation exists among advanced potato breeding clones for tuber calcium and magnesium content and the extent of genotype x environment interactions on these two traits....
Owyhee Russet (AO96160-3) originated from a cross between A89384-10 and A89512-3 in 1996. Owyhee Russet was released in 2009 by Oregon State University, in cooperation with the USDA-ARS and the Agricultural Experiment Stations of Idaho and Washington and is a product of the Northwest Potato Variety (Tri-State) Development Program. Owyhee...
Purple Pelisse is a specialty ‘fingerling’ potato with purple skin and dark purple flesh. It has medium maturity and sets a large number of smooth, small, fingerling-shaped tubers. The tubers have medium specific gravity and high levels of antioxidants. This potato variety is mainly intended for the fresh market but...
Palisade Russet is a medium-late maturing, lightly russeted potato cultivar notable for its resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) infection of foliage and tuber. Palisade Russet is suitable for processing with low tuber glucose concentrations observed following long-term storage at a temperature as low as 5.6A degrees C with consistently...
Virus contamination in a potato breeding program can seriously
disrupt the variety development process. Experiments were conducted
from 1989 through 1993 to: evaluate the extent to which Potato
Leafroll Virus (PLRV) and Potato Virus Y (PVY) can invade a breeding
program, determine viral spread within hills and within individual
tubers,...

Umatilla is the progeny of a cross between Butte and A77268-4. This Oregon selection was evaluated as AO82611-7 in numerous Oregon and western regional trials. The long, medium russetted tubers of Umatilla are well suited for processing, but lack the attractiveness to compete in the fresh market arena.
