Abstract
  • The drastic reduction in cattle prices with constantly rising costs of production emphasizes the value of superior genetic material. Although the costs of progeny testing have risen with other production costs, the positive identification of superior genetic material can only be determined by progeny testing. Seventy-six heifers and 312 steers were tested with the steers exceeding previous years for average daily gain, live weight per day of age and carcass weight per day of age. Although the average daily gain on test for the heifers was decidedly less than previous years, their live weight per day of age and carcass weight per day of age were comparable to years past>
