Abstract
  • In Oregon Milk Marketing Area One, milk producers receive a higher price for that portion of their milk sold within their quota allotments. Each year the Milk Stabilization Division of the Oregon Department of Agriculture determines the amount of quota allotted to each producer. Producers can acquire additional milk market quota either by purchasing it from other producers (subject to certain regulations) or by earning it through the production of milk in excess of the allotment. The objective of this research was to determine the maximum amount which the producer could profitably pay to purchase additional quota, rather than earn it. Guidelines are provided to help the producer determine the appropriate break-even price, given his situation and expectations.
