Abstract	OSU entering first year students who attended at summer START session and were 17 years old or older were asked to participate in the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) survey. The BCSSE was designed to measure the high school experiences and college expectations of entering first year students. Further the BCSSE parallels the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) which is administered to senior students and first year students during the winter and spring terms. Thus, by using both instruments, the experiences of first year students can be examined in terms of high school experiences, expected experiences in college, and actual college experiences. This report examined the responses of first year students on the BCSSE.
