Abstract	Little data exists to document the nature of sound generated by vibratory pile driving and the response salmon to that sound. The construction of a new pier at Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center in 1996 offered the opportunity to monitor the sound. The findings were then related to known results of studies on salmonid response to sound. The author concludes that avoidance behavior is unlikely.
