Abstract
  • Assessment studies have summarized the literature on global food security and projected impacts of climate and other major drivers of regional and global change in the 21st Century (IPCC, USDA).  Additionally, the Agricultural Model Inter-comparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) is working to develop new coordinated global and regional assessments of climate change impacts on food and nutritional security.  Drawing on these reviews and new initiatives, this paper (1) reviews the state of science in regional and global food security and nutrition assessment; (2) discusses the degree to which fisheries and aquaculture’s role in regional and global food systems have been taken into account; (3) identifies strategies for advancing the state of science in regional and global modeling studies; and (4) discusses how these studies could better incorporate fisheries and aquaculture.
