Abstract or Summary
  • The main objective of the PrimeFish project is to consolidate and improve the economic sustainability of European fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The achievement of this goal implies a good understanding of how the seafood market is impacted by the consumer behavior and how trends in product innovation evolve. PrimeFish works on consumers and markets involving a wide range of quantitative and qualitative consumer studies as well as industry study cases. The consumer studies will be used to identify the positive or negative attitudes towards fish consumption and that factors that can influence the demand for fish, focusing the work on chosen species. The case studies will be carried out in close co-operation with industry partners and other key stakeholders to ensure the creation of shared value. The database of successes and failures will include 15 cases on product development and consumer behavior which will be used as a background material for trend research, yielding insights into product innovation and which characteristics best fit consumers' preferences. These findings will be useful for fishermen, aquaculture producers, processing companies and other stakeholders when predicting the market behavior and trends. All the studies will be carried out in main European markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom), together with Canada and Vietnam. The results will be applied to the development of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Competitiveness Index (FACI), which will be further used in the creation of a decision support tool called PrimeDSS.
