Abstract
  • PowerPoint slides of workshop presented at 2004 NASIG conference.
  • Remote-access integrating resources (such as updating Web sites and electronic databases) are known for their dynamic nature and changing content, often presenting challenges for catalogers when describing and cataloging these new types of publications. Because they are not necessarily issued in successive parts or bear numeric or chronological designations, they cannot be treated as serials. However, because of their continuing nature, they cannot be treated as monographs. This workshop will explore problematic issues and challenges in cataloging updating Web sites and electronic databases. It will incorporate the recently-revised AACR2 chapters 9 and 12 and the corresponding LCRIs to address topics such as how to identify the content of the resource, how to choose and transcribe the title proper, how to find information on publisher, place and dates of publication, and how to create and maintain bibliographic records for changing content. Ample examples will be provided to illustrate various scenarios. Attendees will be exposed to a variety of problem-solving strategies, cataloging tips, and an opportunity to hear other cataloging experts’ advice and learn from their experience.
