Abstract
  • Over the continental shelf at 15°S off Peru, sigma-t is a well-defined function of temperature (Figure 1) and hence temperature alone may be used to monitor the changes in stratification, to test the thermal wind equation, and to monitor the hydrographic response to wind events. In this report we present vertical-offshore distributions of temperature over the continental shelf and upper slope along a single line as measured by repeated hydrographic sections and a moored current meter array.
