Abstract
  • Oregon State University Libraries took advantage of ILL requests submitted through ILLiad to pilot a "just-in-time" (purchase on demand) program for loans. Robust assessment of the pilot program allowed for a data-driven decision on final program status. The assessment plan included solicitation of patron feedback which helped define success of the pilot and is shaping key improvements to the now-permanent service. Pilot success was built upon strong cross-unit collaboration. An upcoming implementation of GIST will extend ILLiad capabilities and solidify this collaboration by improving work flows and facilitating communication between units. The collaboration also helped shape a recent major reorganization of library units (acquisitions, ILL, collection development, and access services) which, in turn, better supports services like purchase on demand. Participants will learn: 1) Assessment of pilot programs ensures better decision making. 2) Patron feedback is key in defining success and can shape the implementation of new services. 3) ILLiad supports collaboration which supports successful services.
