Abstract
  • Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) populations currently exist in less than half of their historic range in the state of New Jersey. The remaining populations are confined to the northwestern part of the state in the Highlands, Appalachian Ridge and Valley, and Piedmont physiographic provinces, with the exception of Mason's Run, a small stream in southern New Jersey located on the Trump National Golf Course. This paper focuses on the land-use history of the watershed, population genetics of brook trout in the state of New Jersey, and the historic and current challenges that stakeholders are faced with in their conservation efforts on this isolated population. Recommendations are made for future action and management strategies based on background research, personal communication with the conservation management group, and best management practices for golf courses.
