Abstract
  • The faculty and staff at Oregon State University Libraries and Press made a conscious decision in 2011 to proactively set expectations for civil behaviors of those that work in and make use of the library. We wanted to make sure we maintained a safe work and study environment. Influencing factors for this decision were an opportunity to learn from civility guru Dr. PM Forni, a growing student population having to share limited library space and resources, and a diverse campus population where cultural mores could be negatively interpreted. This presentation and handout cover components of the civility campaign, lessons learned, and advice on how other institutions can move forward in leading a culture of civility.
