  • Water is one of the most interdisciplinary topics in natural resources librarianship. At OSU we not only support the growing Water Resources Graduate Program (in which faculty from six colleges and Extension participate), but a search of our library catalog for "water"-related theses and dissertations reveals that disciplines as diverse as Food Science and Technology and Forest Engineering address issues of water, including quality, groundwater, the oceans, scarcity, hydrology, and more. The interdisciplinary nature of water makes finding the right information at the right time a dilemma for researchers, students, citizens and legislators, as well as for librarians. Because it encompasses such a broad range of aspects from the scientific to the sociological, water research calls for strategies of collaboration, invention and persistence. We propose that there are Web 2.0 technologies that will help people in an interdisciplinary field stay connected and informed as well as provide new tools, formats and forums where research is discovered, presented and discussed. We’ll address some of the new sites, tools and approaches available to water researchers in the Web 2.0 world.
