Abstract
  • This paper is an analysis of the resource use conflict of the Columbia River salmon fishery. The report discusses the physical setting of the Columbia River, the biology of anadromous salmon, the history of the resource use, hazards to the salmon, fishing techniques, and salmon usage today with its conflicts, There are three main economic groups in the area which are struggling for more of the salmon fishery: the Indians, the corporations, and the sport fishermen. Federal courts have become heavily involved in solving the numerous legal battles, especially the courts of Judges Robert Beiloni and George Boldt, as of 1975 the struggle for the salmon fishery is not yet totally resolved.
