Abstract
  • Moisture has long been identified as one of the major limiting factors in the distribution of agricultural land use practices. However, the importance of any environmental element can only be determined by considering how it is affected by its relationship with other elements of the environment. Thornthwaite's moisture index attempts to measure the moisture conditions of an area as they are controlled by other environmental conditions. Through analysis of variance, this study seeks to determine whether Thornthwaite's moisture index can be used as a measure of the intensity to which harvested cropland is devoted to corn in the Corn Belt of the United States.
