Abstract
  • We developed a Web-based GIS/database application designed to help motel businesses reach target customers effectively. By using an interactive map along with a relational database, users can view any particular area of the map and perform some basic operations as their groups privileges permit. With different types of privileges, users are classified into four groups. The first group, the public, who are potential customers, can browse the map and retrieve motel information. The public, after being registered, become clients, the second group, who are allowed to make reservations to the motels they are interested in. The third group of users is the motel owners. The motel owners are able to add or delete their motel icons on the map. They also can insert, update, and modify the data associated with their motels. The last group is the system administrators. This type of user can perform various administrative tasks such as performing maintenance and system recovery, and maintaining the account information and the application's integrity.
