Abstract
  • This paper is divided in two parts: the first details technological and institutional developments in the shipping and port industry. The second part is a theoretical work which explores alternative ways to induce demand in the Honduras port system so as to increase the volume of cargo handled through its facilities. To achieve this objective the author proposes to the port authority that it consider strategic pricing and image ( quality of services) as its two principal strategies. Assuming that the services provided by the Honduran Port System have been proven to be of good quality, pricing becomes the most important factor to be considered.
