Abstract
  • Stream channel stability for two tributaries of Rock Creek in the Oregon Coast Range is evaluated by application of a Stream Reach Inventory. Stability nomographs are constructed for graphical analysis of erosion potential. Results indicate that channel stability can be classified. One stream is rated as 'Poor' in resistance to erosion, due primarily to channel scouring by a recent debris torrent. The second, undisturbed channel, was rated 'Fair' in stability because of excessive valley-side slope gradients, obstruction by organic debris, and extreme channel gradients. Sensitivity of the Stream Reach Inventory and recommendations for refinements are also discussed.
