Abstract	The United States is at a crossroads when it comes to environmentally sound design. Social and consumer demands are shifting towards more environmentally conscious design and builders are noticing. However, green construction methods can often carry significant opportunity costs. This can lead to a level of “greenwashing” that not only diminishes the trust of the consumer but also slows the progress needed to solve social problems related to the housing crisis and climate change. However, there is hope in small builders who are following the practices and beginning conversations regarding green building. The following literature review describes the current state of green building, wood waste and environmental justice issues in the United States.
