Abstract
  • We have developed a prototype web-based GIS application for tracking the locations of moving entities. This application, which is called the Responder application, consists of two parts: the Responder client and the Responder server. The Responder client is a .NET application written in C#. It reads the location data from a GPS device and submits them to the Responder server as an HTTP request, possibly by a wireJess communication link. The location data is stored in a relational database. Theo the locations of the moving entities are shown on the map displayed by a Web browser. The user can also retrieve information of a particular entity and requests the shapefile containing the records of its past and current positions.
