Abstract
  • A slide inventory was conducted for a small watershed in the northern Oregon Coast Range. Data on geology, topography and climate were used to evaluate land stability in the Moss Creek basin. As expected, a strong correlation with slope steepness was shown. In addition, failures predominantly occurred on slopes with south or southeast aspect which can be associated with geologic and climatic factors. The structural data suggest a dominant occurrence of landslides on the anti-dip slope. Slide-triggering storm events were designated as those with at least 3 inches precipitation in 24 hours. High antecedent precipitation seemed to increase slope movements. However, no specific climatic events could be associated with certain slides due to lack of specific dates for failures. A risk analysis map was established distinguishing high, medium, and low failure potential.
