Abstract
  • Juniper encroachment in Lassen County, CA was studied to determine whether lop and scatter treatments or fire would be more effective in the removal of juniper and the recovery of sagebrush systems. Recovery post-treatment can be ascribed to the method of removal, whether it is lop and scatter or fire. Lop and scatter appeared to have a higher population of native plants post-treatment while the fire treatment area appeared to have a higher population of cheatgrass. The differences in recovery of the sagebrush systems in both the treatment areas could be ascribed to juniper developmental phases pre-treatment, slope, aspect and soil moisture.
