Abstract
  • In any electrical system no part is stronger than the weakest link. It is very important that the insulation of the transmission line be kept intact at all times. For this reason any improvement in the design or manufacture of insulators would be desirable. The object of this research was to make a study of the stresses imposed on transmission line insulation by impulse voltages resulting from arcing grounds. The first step, therefore, was to study the methods and instruments available for high voltage measurement. In Part 1 an attempt has been made to describe the different types of instruments, giving their inherent limitations and etc. In Part 2 has been taken up a description of the method followed, a statement of the results obtained and an analysis of such results.
