Abstract or Summary
  • All attempted synthesis of perfluoroalkyl boron bonded groups have resulted in the formation of boron-fluorine bonds from the probable decomposition by α-fluorine transfer. The substance alkali metal di-n- butylborate (I) has been identified as the potassium derivative by its reaction with di-n-butylboron chloride and isolation of potassium chloride. The reaction of potassium di- n- butylborate (I) with trifluoroiodomethane in aprotic solvents was studied by ¹⁹F NMR resulting in the identification of a transient intermediate trifluoromethyldi- n-butylboron which decomposed upon warming.
