Abstract
  • Effective pedagogy to teach students about anti-oppression education is valuable to educators and campuses in the United States. One means to introduce oppression to students is to discuss it in its ethical perspectives. This allows students to bring oppression to an individual level and the focus is on values with facts to provide support. The review of the literature provides the reader with pedagogical ideas about using ethics in anti-oppression education. The effectiveness of an anti-oppression course on students is studied by using qualitative and quantitative empirical research. Students' changes towards other ethnic groups and their changes in behaviors, attitudes, and opinions about racism in the United States over 10 weeks is quantitatively studied. The qualitative measure is student interviews which were conducted at the end of a 10 week term. An understanding of effective pedagogical strategies, through an interdisciplinary approach, to teach students about racism and other oppressions is worth investigation and further research.
