Abstract
  • This thesis uses the manuscript option. The First Manuscript proposed a markerless Motion Capture (MOCAP) system with a Virtual Reality (VR) setup, which has the potential to eliminate excess cost and time associated with physical prototyping. Validation of the proposed virtual ergonomics analysis was made by measuring L4/L5 compression forces. Results indicated proposed virtual ergonomics method was able to replicate the physical test conditions in virtual environment with high fidelity. The Second Manuscript explored the effect of weight in the proposed virtual ergonomics methodology. Results indicated that both Physical and Virtual Experiment were able to capture ergonomics outcomes under varying loading conditions. Another interesting observation was that under the same simulated weight in Digital Human Modeling software condition, the varying actual weights did not affect the ergonomic performance.
