Abstract
  • A steady-state, liquid-liquid contactor, which was a modified version of a cell Previously developed by Godfrey, was constructed for the study of interphase mass transfer. In particular, the contactor was developed in order to eliminate problems encountered while studyinpg ternay systems with the conventional Lewis cell. The system, water-benzoic acid kerosene, was chosen for experimental analysis Several controllable parameters of the contactor; i.e. mixing rates, concentration driviing forces, and transfer area, were varied in order to determi- ne their effect on the overall transfer' coefficients. The experimental results agreed well with both mace transfer theory and with results obtained by other researchers with similar systems in the Lewis cell.
