  • Pleistocene glaciation in the upper elevations of the Western Cascade Mountains took two characteristic forms: cirque and valley glaciers. Field observations in the Neal Creek and Thomas Creek drainage areas of Snow Peak provide evidence of three glacial advances. Glacial landforms in the Neal Creek Valley are dominated by a valley glacier evident by a broad U-shaped valley that extends 10,000 feet (3077 meters) downslope. The dominant glacial landform in the Thomas Creek drainage is a flight of cirques. Inferences are drawn on the structure of Snow Peak as a controlling element in the evolution of glacial development and the establishment of a local orographic snowline is presented.
