Abstract
  • A remote Digital Signal Processing (DSP) lab for the Internet is developed to give students the opportunity to work together online with a remotely located Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Students in different locations can work together with the DSP as if they were present in the lab. To make this possible a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is implemented. The GUI provides the same functionality remotely that is available locally by the DSP debugger in the physical lab. The students communicate with each other by using an included chat function allowing teamwork over the Internet. While only one student is permitted to send commands to the DSP, all other logged on students see in real time the results of his actions. In contrast to other applications, students only need a web browser connection to both operate the hardware and work on teams. No additional software is required to be installed on the students' home computer. The developed system is modular for ease of expansion, robust to failures in remote computers or connections, and secure, allowing access only for registered students. An administration tool enables to add, modify and delete student data records. With the introduced features, the remote DSP lab supports enhanced access and provides the possibility of offering the course for distant learning.
