Abstract
  • This thesis is concerned with the logic design of a small digital computer employing Read Only Memory(ROM) in a special type of arithmetic unit(AU). The AU is controlled by the ROM and is capable of performing a large number of operations. The performance of the unit with its associated ROM is explored. In order to prove out the feasibility of utilizing such an arithmetic unit, a small computer is designed and examined. This computer can have a rich instruction set without complicated logic networks. Presented also is a brief discussion of related subjects such as microprogramming and a number of sample programs to illustrate the operation of the system.
