Abstract
  • Shrapnel is an exploration through memory. It’s a work that bends and twists upon itself and, as memory often does, lands within worlds and experiences only for a moment before jumping to the next story or thought. This text is a hybrid work that doesn’t fit neatly within any specific genre confines: it’s too poetic to be categorized as traditional narrative but also too story- driven to be categorized as poetry. When you read Shrapnel you’ll discover worlds that—for better or worse—have been home to me throughout my life. In this work I address the associative way that memory often operates. I write of my military experiences in Afghanistan as well as my interactions with my drug-addled and alcohol-ridden family members. It’s not a pretty work, it can be quite dark at times. But it’s me: exposed. It’s my life: in whatever pieces that it exists. All these scattered bits.

  • description.provenance : Rejected by Julie Kurtz(julie.kurtz@oregonstate.edu), reason: Hi Christopher,Rejecting for several reasons -1) The pages in the actual thesis should be numbered consecutively to the end. After page 85 there are no page numbers. Page numbers should be in the top right corner.2) The Artist's Statement should appear either at the end of the pretext pages, or the first of your thesis, so would be page 1.3) The page with the title Shrapnel, A collection of moments by Christopher Baumer should be page 1 unless you wanted this in the pretext pages.Everything else looks good. Once revised, log back into ScholarsArchive and go to the upload page. Replace the attached file with the revised PDF and resubmit. Thanks,Julie on 2017-09-07T17:46:01Z (GMT)
