Abstract
  • The purpose of this dissertation is to ascertain if there is a significant difference in the counselor rating of the bond component of the Working Alliance between Theist clients and their counselors and Atheist/Agnostic clients and their counselors. Measures of client religiosity, Working Alliance, and Treatment Arm from the Project Match database were run through Correlations, Chi-squared tests of independence, t tests, and Multiple Linear Regression. A significant difference was found in the counselor rating of the therapeutic bond between the Theist and Atheist/Agnostic clients inthe firest three tests, but the Multiple Linear Regression tests did not indicate a predictive relationship between these variables. The results of this dissertation suggests a need for further study of the definitions of spirituality and the experience of non-religious clients in counseling.
