Abstract
  • This paper is an exploratory study of the risk perceptions in the Oregon Hazelnut growing community. The study takes place at a time when the industry as a whole has begun to stabilize from the effects of Eastern Filbert Blight, a fungal pathogen that infects hazelnut trees which had devastated the industry for decades. This paper explores how hazelnut produces and others in the industry perceive the risks they face, including Eastern Filbert Blight, the effects of climate change, and major market transitions affecting the international trade of hazelnuts.
