Abstract	Samples of insulating materials used in the construction of electrical machinery and apparatus are tested for dielectric strength before such are accepted for use. This is done by applying to the sample a high voltage until it is pierced through by the electric spark. This is a parallel case to the determination of mechanical strength of materials to be used in structural work, as it is done in the ordinary testing machine.
