Abstract
  • Increasing automation and highly flexible manufacturing processes cause increasing complexity for manufacturing system. FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System) is an approach to solve this problem. Since the elements of the FMS and manufacturing process performance are closely interrelated, the application of simple modeling and emulation techniques in the planning stages for system installation can be useful. This thesis describes an emulation (physical simulation) which can be used to develop and test the control strategies for flexible assembly. Hardware setup and controller interface programming are discussed. Selection of each hardware element is based on its specific application. Controller programming includes device interfacing, position control of assembly robot, and data acquisition. The software is written in Microsoft C and uses Greenleaf C Sampler library.
