Abstract
  • A large rainfall simulator was used to study infiltration on six soil plots. Water content and capillary pressure were measured during steady rainfall at rates less than required to produce runoff. The equipment and procedures used to make these measurements are discussed. Water content and capillary pressure data obtained as a function of time were combined to produce the in situ water holding capacity curve for the profile. The results were compared with data obtained from soil samples using conventional laboratory techniques. Infiltration capacity curves were also obtained for these soils using high rates of rainfall. The infiltration capacity curves for the plots are compared using scaled variables.
